One may get admission at any IIT after clearing a test organized by the all the IITs and but also getting passed by a recognized board like ICSE CBSE or NIOS BOARD. Some feel that the nios degree is not accepted in getting admission in iit institutes, which is not true. NIOS is a government of India recognized board which is given value in all competitive and professional courses that students take after clearing their 12th. 6. Can subjects be changed after taking admission in NIOS?

 

Yes. A student can change one or more subjects or opt one/two extra subjects during the admission period of five years, considering the total number of subjects does not cross seven. 

 

 

 

7. Do students have a language choice for 10th and 12th in NIOS Board ?

 

NIOS offers its courses mainly in English, Hindi and Urdu medium. At the Secondary levels, apart from English, hindi, urdu you also have a choice of Telugu, Gujarati Malayalam and Marathi as other mediums for study. 

 

 

 

8. Are subjects already passed from any other Board allowed to be moved or shifted to NIOS?

 

 

NIOS provides the facility of "Transfer of Credit" to a maximum of 4 subjects from NIOS(Old Registration), to a maximum of 2 subjects for CBSE /CICSE /UP Board of Secondary Education / Uttranchal Board of Examination / State Open Schools. 

 

 

 

 

9. Who will provide the study material for NIOS board?

 

Students admitted should collect study materials from NIOS without any extra payment. The material includes books, prospectus, datesheets and other important necessities. 

 

 

 

10. How much fee should should be paid for the study materials?

 

No extra fees will be charged for study material if you take admission in NIOS Board. The admission fee deposited by a learner will also include the cost of the study materials. 

 

 

 

11. What is Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA)?

 

Tutor Marked Assignments are helpful for  you to learn and be a meritorious student . They provide you practice in writing answers to questions and get feedback. 15. Is it necessary to have a two years gap between passing of Secondary and Sr. Secondary Examination?

 

Yes, a two years gap is essential between passing of secondary and Sr. Secondary examination. If a learner does not have the requisite gap of two years, he/she can appear in maximum of four subjects only in the first year. He/she will be eligible to appear in remaining subjects only on completion of two years gap.

If the student has failed in board years (xth & xiith)  of CBSE, ICSE or UP Board as well as other provincial boards, these students can be immediately enrolled in Stream 2 of Nos by providing their original failed marksheet. There is a trasfer of marks system known as Transfer of Credit (TOC) in NIOS where a maximum of 2 subjects can be transferred from other boards. 

 

 

 

26. Is the candidate allowed to apply for re-evaluation of answer sheet in case the result is not as per the expectation?


There is no re-evaluation or scrutiny for the Secondary Examinations. The National Institute of Open Schooling has introduced the re-evaluation of answersheets at the Senior Secondary level. This will be in addition to the already existing system of scrutiny/re-totaling of marks for Secondary and Senior Secondary levels. Candidates who have appeared for the Sr. Secondary exams of NIOS in April-May 2010 or after can apply for re-evaluation of answersheets in theory paper of any subject. There is no provision and procedure for re-evaluation in Practical exams.

 

 

27. How to get duplicate NIOS pass certificate?


To get duplicate Marksheet/Migration/Provisional certificate the student needs to get a Bank Draft of requisite fee in favour of Secretary , National Institute of Open Schooling, Payable at NOIDA, along with prescribed application form and any documentary proof (such as photo copy of Identity card or any document received from NIOS) may please be sent on the appropriate address.To get duplicate Pass certificate A Bank Draft of requisite fee in favour of Secretary , NIOS, Payable at noida, along with prescribed application form and original affidavit.

 

 

28. Is it compulsory to pass in N.I.O.S theory and practical exams separately?


Pass Criteria for Secondary Course (Class X) in a subject for NIOS is a minimum of 33% marks in the aggregate (Theory plus practical wherever applicable) in the public examination. Pass Criteria for Senior Secondary Course (Class XII) in a subject for NIOS is a minimum of 33% marks in the aggregate as well as separately in theory and practicals in the public examination. The marks obtained in TMA will be shown separately in the marksheet.

 

 

29. What is PCP in NIOS?


Each accredited institution or coaching is supposed to organise Personal Contact Programmes (PCP) on weekends/holidays under the guidance of a facilitator, who is generally a scholar associated with the NIOS Board. During these sessions, teachers (teachers of the school if the school itself is a study centre, or those of a school working in collaboration with the study centre if it is an NGO) help students with the course work.

A candidate who wishes to avail the concession in Examination is required to produce a Medical Disability Certificate of a Govt. doctor from a recognized Hospital/Medical Institution indicating the nature of his/her disability and the extent of the disability.While appearing at the examinations, the candidate will write his/her disability on the top of the answer script, which will also be authenticated by the Centre Superintendent.

58. What are the achievements of NIOS Board?

 

Being the Largest Open Schooling system in the World with more than five lakh learners enrolled into their education programme at Secondary, Senior Secondary and Vocational Courses still continues to grow in other parts of the country increasing number of students who pass with this board every year. NIOS has also Increased its number of study centers from a meagre 161 to huge network of more than 1500 study centers, enabling maximum reach including the remote areas and other rural villages.

 

 

 

59. What are the objectives of NIOS open school board ?

To inspect the relative cost efficiency, cost effectiveness and cost-benefit of the open school model as compared to the conventional school model in terms of unit cost, private and opportunity cost, public cost, capital / non-recurring cost and recurring/operational cost. To inspect the nature and type of courses (academic/vocational) offered by the Open Schooling system and their linkage with higher learning and livelihood/productivity and development. To study the processes of the course development, learner support and learner assessment (both formative and summative assessment) systems used in the Open Schooling approach.

 

 

 

60. What is the future targets of the NIOS ?

The NIOS, in collaboration with international organizations like COL and UNESCO, as well as at bilateral level, will strive for promotion of open schooling in the developing countries through various modes such as advocacy, consultancy, training of functionaries, dissemination of information, workshops, conferences etc. The open schooling system with inbuilt flexibilities is going to be a major programme delivery mode of study up to pre-degree level. In India, we are at a crucial moment when a big thrust needs to be given to the open schooling system.

61. What is the procedure for taking admission in NIOS?


The Admissions for NIOS are open throughout the year. The admission forms are only available online. Procedure for Online Admission Directly by Learners The procedure for On-line Admission for all above four streams is as follows: There are four streams of On-line admission catering to the learners with different needs. The admissions in these four streams are mutually exclusive i.e., learner can only opt for one of them. On-line Admission for all learners (Stream 1): This stream for On-line Admission is open for all the learners as per the laid down eligibility criteria for Secondary and Senior Secondary level. Learners taking admission through On-line under Stream-1 will be attached to the AI (Study Centre) as opted by them at the time of admission and will be eligible for TOC as per conditions

 

 

 

62. What are the eligibility criteria for admission to the Secondary Course?

Secondary Course is equivalent to the Xth standard. However, you will be required to successfully complete a minimum of five subjects, which is compulsory for certification. Secondary Course Eligibility Criteria 2015 Requirement: Certificate of Class VIII passed, or Self Certificate Valid proof of attaining 14 years of age can apply for registration to a Secondary Course A residential proof of applicant.

 
 

 

63. What is the valid proof of date of birth?

 

As per the new provisions all candidates, irrespective of whether they were born on or before January 26, 1989, may submit an attested copy of the birth certificate issued by a municipal authority or by the Registrar of Births and Deaths. They can also submit an attested copy of the date of birth certificate from the school last attended Or Transfer certificate or affidavit sworn before a first class magistrate stating nationality and the date of birth.

 

 

64. Does NIOS allow any fees concession?

 

Yes, their is concession for nios fees, but only to PWD and SC/ST students. No Concession for general category Concession in fee to SC/ST candidates: The SC/ST students are given concession in admission fees to the extent of Rs.450/- for Secondary Courses and Rs.525/- for Senior Secondary Courses. Concession: 50% concession in fees is given.

 

 

 

 

65. How many subjects are required to be taken for obtaining the pass certificate?

 

The stress in NIOS is to bring out the best in you. Every subject is not equally difficult for you. You can learn some subjects very well, may be in six months, whereas some requires more than a year. Keeping this in mind, NIOS allows you to appear in or two subjects, so to build confidence in you of doing well in the examination. You can take some more subjects in the next examination, but do well in each. As soon as you complete the required number of subjects, you get your certificate.

 

 

 

66. What are the mediums of studies available in NIOS?

 

Choice of Medium of Instructions: NIOS offers its courses mainly in English, Hindi and Urdu mediums. Secondary Course: At Secondary level, the course is offered in Regional Mediums also besides these mediums. The choice of medium is also available in Hindi, English, Urdu, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Malayalam and Oriya mediums in addition to English, Hindi and Urdu mediums. The learner is free to choose any one of these mediums for studies. Sr.Secondary Course: At Sr.Secondary level, the course is offered only Hindi, English, Urdu mediums. The learner is free to choose any one of these mediums for studies.  

 

 

 

67. What is Minimum age to take admission in the Senior Secondary Course?

 

Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for admission. You have to submit a valid date of birth proof for verification along with the application. However, the minimum age for enrollment for Secondary course: Completed 14 years of age and for Senior Secondary course: 15th year as on 31st January, 2016. Secondary (class X) passed from any recognized board.  

 

 

 

68. Can any learner take direct admission in the Senior Secondary courses?

 

 

No, senior secondary is equivalent to 12th, learner cannot take admission in senior secondary without passing out in his secondary exam or 10th from any recognized board institute. Any student who has acquired a minimum age of 14 years can appear for regular exams by NIOS and can appear for 12th exam after a minimum gap of 2 years after the 10th exam. 

 

 

 

 

69. What is the validity period of admission?

 

Validity of NIOS Admission Your admission is valid for five years. For Public Examination at Secondary and Senior Secondary level, you may take nine or fewer chances to successfully complete the course during this period. Once register it is valid for 5 years for both secondary and senior secondary. Part Admission Under this scheme, you may take admission in one or more subjects but not more than four subjects. On passing, you will be issued only the Marksheet. 

 

 

 

70. How do students get confirmation of their admission?

 

No E-Confirmation of Admission Admission to a particular course is normally confirmed by NIOS by issuing an Identity Card having your admission particulars as per the record available in NIOS. If any discrepancy is noticed at any stage of admission even if the Identity Card is issued, the admission will be cancelled and result will not be declared even if appeared in examination.  

 

 

 

71. Is there any provision for correction in admission record?

 

Yes, correction will done as per guidance hosted on NIOS website. Procedure for Correction in the Admission Records The Admission to a particular course is normally confirmed by NIOS by issuing an Identity Card having details of learner's admission particulars as per the record available in NIOS. 

 

 

72. Do NIOS issue duplicate identity card?

73. Are the Common Services Centres of Government of India authorised to act as NIOS Facilitation Centres?

 

Yes, NIOS has entered into an MOU with CSC e-Governance India Ltd., Ministry of Information and Technology, Government of India. Under this MOU, All the Common Services Centres throughout the country will be acting as Facilitation Centres of NIOS where any prospective candidates can avail various online facilities of NIOS at the prescribed rates. 74. Can a student take admission in 10th/12th of NIOS after passing the 10th/ 12th from a formal Board of School Education?

 

Yes, who have passed the secondary/senior secondary course from any National/state board of school education and want to take admission for the same course, you can continue your education towards a Senior Secondary Certification, equivalent to XII standard. On successful completion, you will get only the mark sheet.  

 

 

 

75. How and when marksheet and certificate will be issued?

 

Result & Certification Marksheet and certificate is issued just after 25 days of result out of nios.Every Month through NIOS conduct ODE during last month. After due processing the ODES result will be declared and published through NIOS web site during last week of every month for the examinations conducted during the preceded month. 

 

 

 

 

76. Re examination fees of nios is taken or not?

 

Yes re-examination fees are held as per the subject wise. It is calculated as per the subject, which you have chosen for examination. National Institute of Open Schooling has been released the Reappear forms for classes 10th and 12th. Now all those aspirants who have reappear in one or two subjects can apply for reappear examination which will be held after gthe result of regular examination. 77. Will Every State Government approve certificates of NIOS?

 

Education being a concurrent subject as per Indian Constitution, state Governments are bound to recognize the certificates issued by a Union Government Institution. Hence many courts issued orders to clarify this.Certificates issued by NIOS are accepted for higher education, Govt. jobs and all other purposes. Also, the certificate issued by NIOS are accepted by all the National/State Boards. However, in certain cases, various Boards have fixed an eligibility criteria based on their specific requirements. Hence, the candidate seeking admission in NIOS may go through the latest eligibility criteria of different Boards. 

 

 

 

78. Why State Governments shall recognize NIOS certificates at all?

 

The Government of India has set up the National Open School Society, an autonomous and registered body on 23rd November, 1989 to cater to the educational needs of school dropouts, working adults, housewives and socially disadvantaged sections, through distance education at the school stage. The Society runs the management of the National Open School which, through distance and open learning system, has been offering courses, preparing students for the Secondary and Senior Secondary School Examinations and also offers Bridge (Preparatory) Courses. 

 

 

 

79.What subjects should be taught to children/ what subjects are best for better marks?

Yes, The secondary and Sr. secondary degree certificates issued from nios have the same recognition as certificates issued by other boards like CBSE and UP Boards.
